Venus Doli Vestonice Ancient Egyptian Fertility Figurine Venus of Renancourt

Artist Jenny Bielawski presents eight watercolour paintings of small female figurines; some are called Mother Earth Goddesses, some Venus Goddesses, and Fertility figurines, most of them are very old

She writes:
All of them (except Barbie) seem to speak to me reaching over the ages; I feel an affinity with their Femininity.
I love them all, except 'Barbie' for obvious reasons and 'Sheela-na-gig' who talks to me with a different voice, possibly a male with a didactic message from a moralistic early Christian church hierarchy.

  JENNY BIELAWSKI

Taranaki is where I have lived for most of my life.

Trained and become a registered nurse in Hawera, and later trained in Wellington to become a registered midwife and practiced in Hawera Maternity hospital for many years.

Moved to Tarata ten years ago and after a year or so I did a Visual Arts Degree at WITT in New Plymouth.

My husband and I have six children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, that obviously puts us into the older age group, I think I may be sixty-eight this year.

THE ART:

I play around with fabric and fibre to form works of art that project some degree of intrigue and hopefully a challenge for the viewer. Printmaking fascinates me, I love etching and making mono prints and also continue to work with paint; water colour, house paint anything that will help me make an interesting mark onto paper, fabric or any other surface.

Jenny lives in Tarata, Taranaki, New Zealand
