My husband and I would like to take this opportunity to say well often art may cover the everyday life, but it is rare we feel to see such depth of feeling in have great courage to share your feelings with all...we hope that in the future it will be possible to get to know you and your art much better, perhaps via the internet...all the best...and our thanks for the experience

I'm delighted to discover your page, I'll definitely be checking it regularly, I work in graphite and I am currently taking more classes at our local community college and hope to learn to work in color, what I've seen of your display so far is wonderful. I like the closeups of details of each painting.

thanks for the Catherine Yakovina exhibition, Great stuff!
Hope you keep that page up rather than deleting it to make way for the next exhibit - I've just linked it to the "Arts" page at Russian Feminism Resources.
Come to for links to more Russian women artists.

The spirit of this place is really rare and profound. New exhibition of russian authors excited me. I feel the authors' souls incredibly clearly.

I almost felt like I was visiting home, for I have looked with depth at all of this brilliant artwork, it has seeped into my very soul. I know the broader viewing of all this beauty will get a lot of response.

Enjoyed seeing the new works on your site...very interesting and some very good arts...found David Holmes stone sculpture especially touching as I come from a small seashore town. Would love to see that piece, but a bit far for me to do that.I enjoyed all different subject matters and styles...I find that by looking at different artists works it does give one a different prespective on things

Dear Marianne,
Even with the absence of the third dimension (on my screen) your work blows me away whenever I look at it....
"Sleep" has captivated me since the start of Visual Tart. "Aimee at night" & the "Auckland" oil are simply wonderful, as is "Roses". Hey, you even look good pregnant !
Cannot wait to visit you galley when I am back in Taranaki visiting the relatives.
Keep up the flow

I am simply over whelmed at the beauty and strength and impact of these works on both heart and mind. Some are so deeply intellectual that I will need to muse over them for a longer time. Some give such sense of place and flavor of life style that I feel transported there. The variety of media, the expertise and the depth of feeling, from anger to love to despair to excitement; from laughing at life to weeping over its frailties -- the gallery spans all of emotions and spaces. Really wonderful. I'll return many times.

To Karen
I have just been browsing the Virtual Tart site and wanted to tell you that I really loved your work. I live in London (and have done so for the past 8 years) but my family is in New Plymouth. Every year I make a trip home to get back to nature, breath fresh air and chill. I always check out the galleries in town and I picked up the Artizone business card from a cafe. I am now back in London (after a six week break in New Plymouth!) and I am finding it very hard to settle back in. Your work reminds me of the good things back home!

My sister Kerry Lilley gave me your site address ages ago and I have finally gotten around to looking at it - it is so well put together and really enjoyable to browse through - I can't wait to get to school tomorrow to show it to the Art teachers - I think they will love it.
Congratulations on a wonderful webpage.

What a lot of hard work well rewarded Fiona, I felt like I was in some sort of time travel, and was particularly amazed to see the pictures of the first ball in Auckland, I was the tender 8 of eight then, dont think I even new what a lesbian was, but they were out there and I feel kinda sad I missed out on so much for so long.
I hope people pay heed to my Email tag advertising this exhibition
Congratulations Fiona, I hope you have many hits on this site. I would love to hear more about your work being removed by DV just someday when you get time.
Best of british

An excellent display of Taranaki artists, and to be highly commended.

Every so often a lump of pride sticks in your throat, I felt this on first looking at this site.

"Why do we accept a woman in a frock with two shopping bags while a man looks ridiculous in the same?"
I wouldn't agree with this I know lots of convincing trannys I wear a frock myself and go to the shop, mind a rucksack and Doc Marten boots are more practical than two shopping bags, which always look ridiculous, but not half as bad as those shopper trollies.

January 9, 1998

Richard Bradley, New Zealand
Enjoyed your page and a look at your art.
Would you consider visiting Toko school, just out of Stratford, and working with a group of Form 1 and 2 children for a unit of work, and helping them create their own art?

Joan & Steve Irvine, Canada
Hi John:
We've just been touring your exhibition and we've enjoyed it very much.
You may remember me from your visit to Canada a couple of years ago. I'm Dawn Loney's neighbour, the potter who gave you the beaver ear bone.
Your subject matter, graphic design and use of colour are all very intriguing. The photos you had with you (as I recall) during your visit were mostly landscapes. It's great to see these other works which you do as well. I wish there were some dates on them to better follow the evolution of the ideas. Exciting work!
All the best to you during the holiday season and I hope we get to meet again some day.
Steve Irvine

John McLean's paintings looks very familier to me. Especially the painting of see bream....Has he ever held an exhibition in Japan in the past? or has been introduced in a Japanese magazine? If not.... than I think he should.
